If there is one thing we love about royalty, it’s the way they carry themselves. One of the most popular royal families in the world is the British royal family, which makes its reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, perhaps the most famous royal.
Of course, this means that everything about the Queen is almost always been observed and reported by the media, mostly because people around the world are interested to know more about her and her activities.
Enough attention has been given to the Queen’s actions and her wardrobe, but one important feature of hers remains a mystery: what does she carry in her bag?
A Secret Language
Although the fact that the media now knows about the code language, that the Queen uses to communicate with her team, means that it’s not a secret anymore, it’s still very interesting to note that the Queen’s bag performs a lot more functions than simply carry her stuff.
But when it was still a secret, the Queen could secretly inform her team of various actions she was about to take with just the movement of her bag. For example, if she wanted to end a meeting, she would simply place her bag on the table to let her team know that the meeting would be ending in five minutes.
If the conversation has not managed to capture her interest and she wants to be rescued from it by her lady-in-waiting, then she would place her bag on the floor.
A Lot Of Bags
Considering the important function that Her Majesty’s bags enable her to perform, it should come as no surprise that the Queen has many bags at her disposal to suit any occasion or theme.
According to reported figures, there are around 300 bags under the ownership of the Queen, which include the bags by Launer London, one of her favorite brands and also the holder of the royal warrant for the provision of the Queen’s bags since the past 40 years or so.
The bags are quite expensive but one should not expect anything less from royalty. On average, the Launer bags that the Queen owns are priced at around $2000 each and are made from the skins of soft-calf or alligator skin, among other materials.
But Does She Carry Anything?
Apparently, she does and, surprisingly, the contents of her bag make her sound very un-royal. According to reports, there are mints, doggie treats in case her corgis get hungry, and also crossword puzzles that her staff goes through the pain of cutting out of newspapers so that she can remain occupied in her free time.
There are also many charms for good luck in her bag as well such as miniature dogs and tiny saddles, most of which have been gifted by her children.
But the most important item of all, at least from her perspective, has to be the makeup case made by Prince Philip out of metal for the Queen, presented as a wedding gift to her. The Queen has reportedly carried it with herself ever since.
