While it could have been argued that both Emilia Clarke and Kate Middleton are very similar considering the fact that one is royalty and the other pretends to be royalty on Game of Thrones, we no longer need to draw such loose parallels now that the two actually share something in common.
According to reports, both the Duchess of Cambridge and Clarke have a soft corner in their hearts for nurses around the world, and hence are supporting an organization called Nursing Now albeit in different capacities.
While Clarke has been declared as the organization’s first ambassador, Middleton has been supportive of the program ever since its inception last year.
Emilia Clarke’s Statement
As part of the statement released by the actress, she referred to nurses as the backbone of the health industry, while also pointing out the fact that nurses are being underpaid and perhaps an improvement in their compensation could result in better healing as well as prevention for the people under their care.
In the same statement, Clarke described the mission of Nursing Now as an initiative aimed at providing nurses with the means to utilize their potential to the fullest, thereby making an even bigger impact in the healthcare sector.
According to her, the steps which need to be taken are increased financial investment in nurses as well as greater responsibility by providing access to leadership positions.
In her opinion, such empowered nurses would be able to provide better care by increasing the provision of healthcare services like midwifery or services tailored to the needs of children/adolescents.
But personally, Clarke is looking forward to nurses becoming natural healers, having the ability to provide medical assistance to anyone regardless of location.
Kate’s Immense Contribution
It was only a year ago that Nursing Now became a reality, and Kate was actively involved in the process. Upon completion of the first year of its operations, a statement was released by the Duchess to celebrate the success of this program.
As per Kate, the past year has been remarkable for Nursing Now as it was able to expand into the international territory by joining forces with multiple groups in more than 60 countries. She commended the nurses for their dedication and also their professionalism.
She also drew a deep connection between the nursing community and herself, stating that her great-grandmother had worked as a nurse during the first World War, and that is a major reason why she feels very invested in this initiative.
The Year Of The Nurse
According to the World Health Organization’s Executive Board, the year 2020 would be recognized as the Year of the Nurse and Midwife, and organizations like Nursing Now would play a key role in making that a reality.
The year 2020 holds a special place in the nursing community at this time because there are approximately 20 million nurses around the world at this point in time. The WHO hopes that, by celebrating nurses, the young would at least become more open to the idea of becoming one.
